Walt Disney as an Allusion
Walt Disney was the father or in other words the creator of
Micky Mouse and Donald Duck. He is known to be a lover of nature and animals. He
often portrayed animals as cute innocent creatures like in his animated movies
Snow White, Dumbo, Bambi, and many
others. One may refer to someone as Walt Disney if known to be a nature lover
and portray animals as cute, innocent, and friendly creatures as well. An
allusion using Walt Disney is seen in Juliana Barnes’ Flaubert’s
Parrot, (1984) when she wrote “There
are a lot of animals slaughtered in his books. He isn't Walt Disney, no. He was
interested in cruelty, I agree.” (qtd. In Delahunty, Dignen, and Stock 14) The
phrase infers that the author being talked about didn’t portray animals as
innocent like Disney did. By calling him Walt Disney is an allusion because it’s
using him to describe the typ of person the author is not. This is due to his
books having animals being slaughtered all the time in the
stories.
